Fundraising – What’s the need?
Fundraising over the years has taken on an almost overwhelming bearing on people today.
If you have kids in school they are constantly coming home with fundraising packets. If you have kids in sports, same thing. Everyone is familiar with the Firemen collecting money in a boot. People my age will remember Jerry Lewis and his weekend long fundraisers for MDA. Your church collects money. Your politicians solicit your donations. And I don’t think there’s a single person who hasn’t gotten a packet of return address labels with a letter asking for money. IT’S OVERWHELMING.
The average family is still recovering from the Economic downturn and is very cautious with its money. Combine that with increased costs for running a household, education, and health care and the rushing river of donations has dwindled to a babbling brook. We understand that.
Now take a non profit whose main source of income is the State of Connecticut, do I need to say more! The State had continued to decrease the funding for our clients, decreasing revenue, while at the same time increasing the reporting and other requirements which drives up the admin cost. While G.R.O.W.E.R.S. runs a very efficient ship, which has enabled us to thrive thus far, the continuation of this trend requires us to rely more and more on Fundraising.
There are many was to support us. Come into the Greenhouse and purchase a plant. Go to the donation page on this website and make a single donation or a donation paid throughout the year. Or one of the best ways is to support is our twice a year Fundraising Events. The next Fundraising Event will be held June 2, 2016 from 5-8pm, in or Greenhouses at Edgerton Park in New Haven. It will be excellent food, wines from Spain, and music from the jazz band BadSlax. There will be raffles and door prizes and the Greenhouse will be open for sales. We understand that your wallets are being pulled in many directions for many very good causes. All we are asking is that you try to support the good works of G.R.O.W.E.R.S. in whatever way and for what ever amounts you can.
